2023 Honda Civic Type R JDM Honda Accessories Include Huge Carbon Fiber Wing

If you're itching to get your hands on the new 2023 Honda Civic Type R like we are, and already drumming up thoughts of adding aftermarket go fast goods like the expected intercooler and intake upgrades, ECU piggybacks, footprint shaped gas pedals, and more, keep in mind there are some factory-produced options on the way. In fact, the Japanese domestic market's (JDM, if you're under 70 years of age) optional parts team is already rolling out some upgrades.

The options don't include engine or suspension upgrades but rather aesthetic and creature comfort-related parts as well as an interesting aero piece. According to Honda Access of Japan's Genuine Accessories catalog, you can add some carbon fiber touches to the cabin with overlays that attach to the upper slats on the door cards and to the shifter surround. The familiar weave is augmented with a red fiber weave to give it a unique look and play into the Type R's bright red motif.

Add even more red accents with crimson floor mats, a black aluminum shift knob wrapped in red leather, and red plastic covers that fit over the side mirrors. Other less Type R-specific options include a louder Euro horn since people have laughed at the Civic's "meep meep" tone since the dawn of time, a cargo cover, window visors, interior LED lighting, and a wireless charger that really should be standard by now. In addition, you can dress up the door openings with illuminated Type R sill plates and maybe add some parking lot entertainment with door-mounted puddle lights.

By far the most talked about item from the catalog will be the new rear wing. Similar in stature to the factory piece, this new version underwent extensive development and Honda says it improves the driving experience with additional downforce providing stability at high speeds and takes some strain off the pilot's arms and shoulders. The look takes cues from a GT style wing that usually consists of a horizontal plane and a pair of vertical end plates. This version, though singular, emulates that multi-piece construction.

The raised center portion of the new wing uses an integrated gurney flap and its end plates hunch forward to create a more pronounced curve. On the rear of the wing, you'll notice the unusual sawtooth-shaped additions that are in place to tame wind turbulence. Usually tucked away, Honda liked the idea of displaying the jagged design that's highly visible from the car's rear.

Unlike the standard rear wing, this option is constructed of carbon fiber using the same red weave found in those interior cover pieces, and the material's lightweight nature shaves a few pounds off the original. A locking bolt that uses a hardware-specific key, similar to the wheel locks on your car, is shown in the catalog as well. Though it's not clear if they're included or purchased separately from the wing, they're probably a good idea given the unusually sticky fingers that often accompany anything related to Type R models.

These accessories are set to go on sale this month for Japan's market and whether or not U.S. dealers will unveil the same line of products is still up in the air. With so many resources available online these days you can certainly get your hands on the Japanese versions with a little help (and some handling fees) from an import service.
