Thereafter, a team of the polling team may visit Goa sometime next week, and later visit Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Manipur. The polling team will meet with state officials and other stakeholders to assess the situation on the ground.
For those who don’t know, the committee usually visits voting-restricted states before announcing the election timetable. Updating the voter list and compliance with the Covid agreement are some of the issues that the committee can assess. The EC team may also meet with representatives of political parties during the visit.
At the same time, there are reports that the polling team may announce the timetable for Uttar Pradesh elections next month, most likely after January 5. In addition, it stated that the polling team is considering completing the election process in the first week of February to March.
A source close to the polling team said that the UP election may be held in 7-8 stages. Also in 2017, the polling team conducted Vidhan Sabha Chunav in 7 stages in Uttar Pradesh from February 11 to March 8.
The term of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly will end in May next year, while the terms of the legislative assemblies of the other four states will end on different dates in March 2022.
